Physical Therapy provided in the home is comparable to what one would expect to see in a hospital setting. It's an exercise-driven program with the goal of improving patient mobility by strengthening his/her lower extremities. This is especially important for those who are recovering from surgery. The physical therapist teaches patients and family members the proper way to transfer and/or transport the patient in order to avoid injuries to the patient or to the caregiver.
Occupational Therapy is designed to work with the upper extremities of the body. Occupational therapists work with a patient's coordination so they can dress themselves, open cans, cook and do many of the other activities of daily living that enable the patient to be independent. Patients who have had a long term hospital stay or been the victim of an accident or stroke benefit greatly from this service.
Speech Therapy teaches stroke, brain injury, and other patients how to speak clearly again. The speech therapist also assesses the patient's ability to swallow and teaches ways to avoid choking.
